about

Sometimes, you just wake up sad. There isn't much to say about it, really, when it's been happening your whole life. It's just one of those things that you think everyone else goes through until you realize that, no, actually, a lot of people don't live this particular life, that their sadness often has concrete triggers, and your depression has shaped you much more than you've had a chance to process or understand, but when you find the folx who also get it and live it and understand the consuming nothingness that is depression, waking up sad and just doing life anyway because what other choice is there, exactly, because bills still need to get paid and this happens all the time, man, you can't afford to stay in bed? When you meet those people and they meet you and you see each other for exactly what you are? That's the moment that this song makes sense and just simply reflects the fact of sadness that happens sometimes.

lyrics

I woke up sad today
But I made my coffee anyway
Packed my bags
Closed the blinds
Texted some friends
Fell behind
I woke up sad today
I woke up sad today

The dishes rot
In the sink
I know I
Have started to stink
It's not enough to make me shower
It's not enough to make me shower
It's not enough to make me shower
It's not enough to make me shower.

I woke up sad today
But I made my coffee anyway
Packed my bags
Closed the blinds
Texted some friends
Fell behind
I woke up sad today
I woke up sad today

All my choices
Spread out before me
Like paths in the forest
I hear panicked voices
And all I can do is write about it
All I can do is write about it
All I can do is write about it
All I can do is write about it

I woke up sad today
But I made my coffee anyway
Packed my bags
Closed the blinds
Texted some friends
Fell behind
I woke up sad today
I woke up sad today

I see the way
The grass roots grow
I don't know what
My future holds
But it's definitely my time to go
It's definitely my time to go
It's definitely my time to go
It's definitely my time to go

I woke up sad today
But I made my coffee anyway
Packed my bags
Closed the blinds
Texted some friends
Fell behind
I woke up sad today
I woke up sad today

Got nothing smart to say about it
Nothing smart to say about it
Nothing smart to say about it
Nothing smart to say about it

I woke up sad today
But I made my coffee anyway
I made my coffee anyway

I woke up sad today
